Blackberry Sauce for Dessert

blackberry sauce recipe

Seeking a blackberry sauce recipe? This easy blackberry sauce is perfect for crepes and pancakes. The flavor of the fresh berries is enhanced by lemon zest and juice, the perfect addition to this vibrant sauce.

This recipe is actually inspired by H.T. McMullen, the main character in Ashley Memory's novel, Naked and Hungry, which was released in November 2011 by Ingalls Publishing Group.

Like many of us, H.T. finds solace from his crazy life by whipping up tasty recipes like this sauce, for which he is famous. Enjoy!

Ingredients:

  • 2½ cups of fresh or frozen blackberries
  • Juice of ½ lemon
  • ¼ cup of sugar
  • Zest of one lemon
  • 1 tsp of cornstarch
  • 1 tablespoon of water

Stir together berries, sugar, lemon juice, and zest in a medium saucepan. Heat slowly until berries release their juices. Bring to a boil and reduce heat to a simmer. Let simmer for 3 minutes. Stir together cornstarch and water. Add to berries and continue to simmer until sauce thickens, about 2 minutes. It will turn a beautiful red-violet color. Don't cook too long; let berries retain their shape.
